Did you know, faith is not an end in itself?                                                                                                                                                              It is always simply the MEDIUM or means to a greater purpose God desires to bring about! So in reality, faith is a MUSCLE. And we must exercise it. Exercising faith is best illustrated using ACTION VERBS! If you turn this article into a Bible study, be sure and see John 2:1-11; Heb 11; 2 Pet 1:3-8. There are many action verbs and they all speak love and a smiling obedience.

Growing our faith is an intentional activity. And sometimes exercising it can be downright scary and unnerving – like, “Ok, Lord, if you say so. Here we go…”

The action may or may not even be perceived as ‘religious’. In my book “UNLEASHING Spiritual Ambition”, I tell of a business prospect I met who “owned a significant auto repair business  plus had five rental homes in New Jersey. The neighborhood where he lived was showing signs of getting rough. Seeing inevitable danger ahead, he laid out a plan and set goals. First, he sold his own home and moved into one of his five rentals, then one by one over a period of 3 years he sold his rentals – moving again any time it was required. Last of all he sold his business and moved over 1000 miles across the nation to the little country town of Eldora, Iowa where we met and he started over – so his family would be safe and flourish!

Moved by the need to protect his family, he was compelled to live differently. Walking with God by faith is a quest, a journey into virgin territory never before explored by you. Others may have gone ahead and they have their stories, but your journey is still unique to you. As my friend discovered firsthand, it’s quite a venture to confront change.”p.50 “UNLEASHING Spiritual Ambition”

It is FAITH that gets the attention of God.  EVEN SMALL STEPS get His attention! As it says in Pro 15:8 “He [God] likes the prayers of honest people”… such as the prayer “Lord, I believe, help my unbelief” we talked about 2 weeks ago in “The Cancellation of Faith”

Faith is such a prominent theme in the Old Testament as well as the New. Therefore, we need to ask ourselves, “How is my faith? Is it active? growing? Am I exercising it?” And finally, “How would my spouse and family describe my faith?  We can’t lead anyone where we haven’t been. If our faith is passive or left to vegetate, we don’t lose it. We just MISS OUT of the adventure and joy of it powering our lives; it atrophies to take the status of a noun instead of a verb.  iOi
