“it’s Your Turn”

Do you remember a time you were an ‘apprentice’ learning something new?  Your teacher showed you what to do and then said, “Now it’s your turn?”

That’s not exactly how it happened at the wedding feast in John 2. But Jesus’ Mother, Mary, had an assignment. She was the wedding planner. So when they ran out of wine early on, she was in trouble – and she knew the family involved was on the brink of great embarrassment!

So what Mary did was, well, pretty creative! She had been trained well!

We talked about three dynamics: ENERGY, INERTIA and about HOW FAITH IS IGNITED.  So when we ACT on (obey) what Jesus commands, it releases real supernatural power into any equation! Action vitalizes faith. Nothing can take the place of obedient action.

So in her trouble, Mary called on Jesus to help! Then He tested the apprentice’s faith level, asking, “Dear woman, why do you involve me? My time has not yet come.” Jesus’ seeming unconcern was a test! At this point Mary turned to the servants and said, “Do whatever he tells you.”  There’s so much here I would love to unpack. Suffice it to say, Mary had learned well the lessons regarding trust and that’s why she didn’t cave to Jesus’ initial objection but pushed past the test, ACTING for the good of all and leaving the results to Him that eventful day!! Now it was the servants turn to learn. And Mary taught them, saying “Do whatever he tells you.” They did – and it was special!

Today I’m speaking to the elect of God. Jesus said “You did not choose me, but I chose you to go and bear fruit – fruit that will last.” (Jn 15:16). He calls us his friends Jn 15:15. Friends confide in each other. Now it’s your turn. This week, if you choose to accept it, your mission is two things: 1. simply Hang out with Jesus (reading the Bible, prayer), and 2. Do whatever He says. iOi
