Putting myself in Peter’s shoes, here’s what Peter was saying in his last hope – chapter 1, I Peter
Dear Beloved Friends,
As I sit in the quiet of my tent, a flimsy shelter for this frail body, I am compelled to reach out to you again. Twenty years have passed since that glorious resurrection! Still the fire of those days burns brightly in my heart. I feel an urgency to remind you – stir up your memories! We dare not drift into the mundane and forget the extraordinary reality that transformed our lives!
Allow me to share what I witnessed, not as a cleverly woven tale, but as truth rooted in the depths of my soul. I was on the banks of the Jordan when the heavens opened. I heard the voice of the Majestic Glory declare, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” The weight of those words, the authority behind them, left me awestruck and humbled.
Then there was the day on that sacred mountain. A transfiguring happened and I saw it! It was a moment of divine revelation where again I heard that voice resound. Again His glory appeared before my eyes. My heart raced with both fear and affection, a combination I can only describe as divine petrification—total awe before the eternal truth that stands above human comprehension. James and John were there too and they saw it!
We are witnesses to a realm and reality far greater than what the world dares to acknowledge. We live in an age of skepticism and indifference. But let us not become dull to the profound nature of our faith. For what happened in that unforgettable week—when time seemed to pause and eternity broke into our existence —is more than mere history; it is the bedrock of our hope.
Pay attention to the prophetic messages that shine like lights in the dark. My friends, cling fervently to the truth. The dawning of His return is ever closer! Let us take a stand in proclaiming the Resurrected Christ! Many will find it easy to view Easter as simply another hollow holiday, devoid of meaning. But we know this is not the case! One week in human history shines uniquely bright above all others—the week that changed everything.
As we await the return of our Lord, may we keep our hearts stirred and eyes lifted. Let us encourage one another, reminding ourselves that we are not of this world. Our true home lies beyond the horizon of this life. The FINAL buzzer will sound, and on that day, the world will awaken to the truth we have embraced. For us it is the beginning of Life eternal! For them, it will be too late.
But until then, let us, together, make much of the Resurrection story. It is the very foundation of our hope and the promise of His eternal glory. [My transliteration of 1 Pet 1:13-18, Skye Alison]
