Fulfilling our purpose #3 – the Effects of Energy
My wife and I were walking at the park and picked up some litter. A piece she picked up was a portion of a Bible – weathered, faded and crusty hard. Before tossing it, I read a verse I could make out. It was from John 11: “And when he (Jesus) had thus spoken, he cried out with a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come forth’. And he that was dead came forth…” — the effects of Unfathomable Energy!!
When Jordan Peterson was asked, “Is Jesus God?” his answer (cranial as expected) was remarkable:
“The figure of Christ is an actual person who loved, plus a myth, so in that sense Christ is the union of the objective world and the narrative world. Christ seems oddly plausible to me, but I still don’t know what to make of it because it’s far too terrifying a reality to believe. I don’t know what would happen to you if you fully believed it.”
Is this not an incredible reality to SYNC into? Apparently, Peterson thinks so! When asked, “If a video camera was set up outside of Jesus’ tomb, would we see a man walk out?” Peterson emphatically replied, “Yes.”
In the narrative of Luke 24, two men are on the road to Emmaus talking and very sad. Jesus came up and walked along beside, but they were kept from recognizing him. Today WE LIVE AT A TUMULTOUS TIME – grief, anxiety, depression, despair. In the world, it’s easy to be overwhelmed and as humans, it’s natural to LOSE energy. So many things keep us from recognizing him! (Could this be WHY the Holy Spirit was sent as a Counsellor, a Helper for us?)
Continuing in the story, verse 31, “Then their eyes were opened.” We need to ask ‘WHEN?’ The answer is when they looked upon him, that is, gave him their FULL attention. That’s when they saw his hands — as he handed them bread.
Remember Jesus commanded the Disciples to “Wait… and be filled with the Spirit.” They waited! And the result was fabulous – ENERGY with impact for ages to come! In reality, they accomplished more for Christ in one day than their combined efforts in 3 years!
The EFFECTS of energy is unmistakable: a renewed spirit. The RESULTS of energy is undeniable: Meaning, Purpose, Power. The MEANS to energy is unchanging and unequivocal: TIME. We have to give Jesus our full attention. iOi
